Self Catering Criteria in South Africa

The Self Catering criteria is almost identical to the Guesthouse, B&B and Country House criteria with the added provision of cooking and barbeque facilities. The quality standard of these facilities will differ according to the number of Blue Stars you will request.

Once you apply to join Blue Star Grading as a Self Catering  Establishment, we will send you a list with the differences with regard to the normal G-Grading criteria. The outside sign will have a ”SC” instead of the “G”  to clearly identify the establishment as Self Catering.

However, if you also provide meals in addition to Self Catering, your Guesthouse status will remain. You will still carry the ”G” on the sign to identify you as a Guesthouse, B&B or Countryhouse.(See above)
